Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a colossal statue located on Upper New York Bay in the United States of America. Formally, this Statue of Liberty is known as “Enlightening the World” is built in honor of the United States and France mutually. Especially for the remembrance of strategic alliance between France and America during the American Revolution time.
This statue stands 305 feet (93 meters Hight) on Liberty Island. It is a statue of a Woman holding a torch in her raised right hand and holding a book on the other hand, that shows the date (July 4, 1776) of the ‘Declaration of Independence’.
The torch is 29 feet or 8.8 meters high with a top of the blaze (which is 420 feet), which was open to American society from 1886 to 1916. This pedestal’s main gate is carved with a unique sonnet of “The New Colossus” Written by Emma Lazarus, written in 1883. Visitors are eligible to enter through special elevator carries including observation desk.

History of Statue of Liberty
A famous French historian named Edouard de Laboulaye, who first proposed this statue idea in 1865. Statue work began in France in 1875 and most of the contributions are made by the French people. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi is the main sculptor. It’s interesting fact, made with Iron and gigantic steel , later Copper (3.32 inches of thickness) was applied in outer layer and this is the primary material used in this statue. The Torch of the Statue (The flame) is made with Gold. Eugene Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc and Alexander-Gustave Eiffel designed this big statue with the help of gigantic steel and the use of manual forces.
The Statue of Liberty gifted by the France to the U.S, presented to France by Levi Morton to American minister in an 1884 during the ceremony of Paris. In 1885 this statue which shipped to New York City (completed 151 feet and 1 inch high and 225 tons of weight).
Later Mr. Richard Morris Hunt an American architect completed and safely landed in the this Bedloe’s Islands. After the installation of the Statue of Liberty goes several modifications like Electric power in 1916 and gold leaf repousse in 1980. Finally, in 1986 in collaboration with Americana and French, statue permanently set up. Even today American believed that, this statue is dedicated by President Grover Cleveland in 1886.
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Statue of Liberty was first governed by the U.S Lighthouse Board, as a light or Flash to Navigation assistance. Its Army post was operated as Fort Wood (deactivated in 1937), it took the responsibility of maintenance and operation of this statue at the time of the 1901 U.S. war. Later Statue was declared a National Monument in 1924, maintained by the National Park Services. So, from 1886 to 1924, this statue has 146 year older history.
In 1956 Bedloe’s Island was renamed Liberty Island and Ellis Island (one’s country’s major immigration station) captured a total area of about 58 acres of areas. So, Statue includes the statue’s original 1886 torch base contained till 2018, later moved to the Statue of Liberty Museum. There are 2 major Statue of Liberties there in this world. One is located in Liberty island, America (World famous one) and another one is in France ( Gift from United States of America in 1889). But you will see other smaller and lesser version of Statue of Liberty in many countries.

Statue of liberty as a National Monuments
In the United States of America, we can see more National monuments like New York, New York Harbor, and New Jersey. Out of that, we should add Statue of Liberty, which covers 58 acres of land. This Colossal statue is representing Liberty Enlightening the World.
In 1924 this great statue was declared a National Monument and in 1984 listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the same time Ellis Island and Island Immigration Museum are also added to the monument in 1965 to this list.
